Press Release: Civic Match
Work for America Launches “Civic Match” to Connect Outgoing Federal Workers and Campaign Staff to State and Local Government Jobs
BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — Today, Work for America announced the official launch of Civic Match, an innovative talent-matching program designed to connect experienced, mission-driven public servants with essential roles in state and local government.
Civic Match is launching at a pivotal moment: as experienced public servants transition between federal administrations, the program is harnessing this talent to fill critical vacancies in local governments.
To date, Civic Match has:
495+ resumes already submitted from entities including the White House, 20+ federal agencies, and both Republican and Democratic campaigns
20+ cities and states engaged and ready to receive talent - from Kansas City, MO; to Philadelphia, PA; to Cleveland, OH - building on Work for America’s efforts to help these governments address critical staffing shortages
Partnerships in development to offer candidates relocation grants, ensuring great talent can move to high-need areas
Brought on strategic advisors, including Quinton Lucas, Mayor of Kansas City, MO, and Jen Pahlka, former US Deputy CTO and author of Recoding America
“The transition in Washington presents a unique opportunity to keep our most talented public servants in the public sector,” said Caitlin Lewis, Executive Director of Work for America. “Civic Match bridges the gap between federal and local service, ensuring cities and states can access the expertise they need to thrive.”
A Transformative Solution for Governments, Jobseekers, and Communities
Civic Match bridges the gap in local government staffing by providing a tech-enabled platform that connects hiring managers with a vetted pool of mission-driven candidates—all at no cost to participating governments or jobseekers. The platform offers personalized onboarding, regular updates when new candidates meet hiring criteria, and ongoing support throughout the hiring process.
For jobseekers, Civic Match serves as a pathway to transition skills honed in federal government or campaign roles into impactful local careers. Communities will benefit from public servants with expertise in communications, policy implementation, data-driven decision-making, and more.
By addressing critical staffing shortages, Civic Match equips local governments to deliver essential services efficiently and effectively, restoring public trust and building a sustainable talent pipeline for the future.
